Interest in CNC machining careers has picked up. The effort the industry has made by reaching out to young people seems to have had an impact. However, these outreach efforts don’t quite reach far enough. Junior high and high school students need more guidance on what to do to pursue a career in CNC machining.

Often students will become interested in machining through the machine shop classes taught in schools. There are also apprenticeship programs available in some areas. Learning the basics early can make getting into the field much easier.

3. Never stop learning: Enrolling in two specialized classes a year will build a solid resume and keep workers up to date on new technologies.
4. Be able to work with others: Working effectively with a variety of people is important in every field. It opens more doors.
5. Turn manufacturing issues into career opportunities: Learn how to take challenges and find ways to fix them. This skill is an invaluable one to learn.
6. Become a certified professional in manufacturing: a certification from the Society of Manufacturing Engineers can set workers apart from the rest. It ensures they have the knowledge needed to make a difference in the industry.
